Oppenheimer is, without a shadow of a doubt, one of the most interesting projects arriving next year: on the other hand, Christopher Nolan (Interstellar, Inception) is at the camera, a name that has always attracted critics and the public a lot. for better or for worse.
While, as with illustrious colleagues such as Tarantino, the English filmmaker divides and amazes with legions of adoring fans and as many groups of haters, this new feature film is ambitious only in name: the story of Robert Oppenheimer's creation of the atomic bomb is in fact already a great ambition that, it seems, translated into a gigantic and monumental challenge.
Oppenheimer is among the most anticipated films of 2023
Just in a recent interview for Collider, Christopher Nolan explained that Oppenheimer is certainly one of the most difficult undertakings of his entire career, just think of the fact that the filmmaker had to recreate the hydrogen bomb without the aid of computer graphics. Let's find out his words in detail:
I think recreating the Trinity test, the first detonation of a nuclear weapon, in New Mexico, without the use of computer graphics, was a great challenge to face. Andrew Jackson – my visual effects supervisor, I brought him on early – was looking at how we could do practically many of the visual elements of the film, from the depiction of quantum dynamics and quantum physics to the Trinity test itself, to creating, with my team, from Los Alamos in extraordinary weather conditions, many of which were necessary for the film, in terms of the very harsh conditions out there – there were huge practical challenges.
It is a story of immense scope and scale. And one of the most challenging projects I have ever undertaken in terms of scope and in terms of meeting the breadth of Oppenheimer's history. There were big logistical challenges, big practical challenges. But I had an amazing crew and they really stepped up. It will be a while before we're done. But definitely as I watch the results come in and as I'm putting the film together, I'm excited about what my team has been able to achieve.
What to say? We certainly can't wait to find out how all of Oppenheimer's commitment has translated into practice. We remind you that the realization will be in Italian cinemas on July 20, 2023, with the production of Syncopy Films, Atlas Entertainment and an exceptional cast composed, among others, by Robert Downey Jr., Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Florence Pugh.
