The theatrical release for the ill-fated Warner Bros. and DC film has been rescheduled! As reported by Variety, The Flash will hit theaters a week earlier than previously announced. Originally scheduled for a June 23, 2023 release, the DC superhero film will hit theaters on June 16, 2023. No reason has been given for this schedule change.
The DC Comics film, which has faced some skepticism regarding its actual theatrical release due to the controversies surrounding star Ezra Miller, will arrive shortly after fellow DC film Shazam! Fury of the Gods is expected on March 17, 2023.
The Flash wrapped production in October 2021, after years of development, rewrites, and legal problems for its star Ezra Miller, who will reprise his role as Barry Allen / The Flash in the DC Extended Universe. However, the film reportedly impressed test audiences more than any other DCEU film.
Miller has played Barry Allen in the DCEU since 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. However, it looks like this film will also be his last. It seems that Warner Bros. Discovery has no plans to work with him again after the debut of The Flash in theaters, following the ongoing controversy and public scandals surrounding the star.
What to expect from The Flash movie
Plot details remain scarce, but we do know that The Flash will take on the Multiverse and explore several alternate realities. Ben Affleck is set to reprise his role as Bruce Wayne/Batman for a small cameo, alongside Michael Keaton's Batman from the 1989 and 1992 films. Sasha Calle will star as Supergirl. Miller is also expected to play an evil doppelgänger version of The Flash (whose costume we saw in the new promo images). The director of the film finds Andrés Muschietti, famous for directing the latest adaptations of IT by Stephen King.
